Hello and welcome to a week full of shaker card fun with
My Favorite Things! We're sharing all kinds of shaker cards, all week long, with giveaways, videos and inspiration!! And you know I love shaker cards, so I am super excited to get this week started! ;)
Today is all about the basics of shaker cards and some tips and tricks for creating them. For my post I wanted to share some of my favourite things to put inside shaker cards and also share a card a created using some of those supplies.
First off, I wanted to share some of my favourite things to put inside my shaker cards. You can use pretty much any small objects that you have on hand... as long as if fits inside the shaker area, you're good to go! Some of my favourite things to include are pictured above:
- sequins
- seed beads
- vase filler
- confetti
- wood embellishments
- other various embellishments
It depends how 'deep' your shaker card is for what will comfortably fit inside and still move around. Shaker cards typically use some kind of foam adhesive and the size and thickness of what you use inside will depend on how thick your foam layer is.
For my card today, I used two layers of thin foam adhesive with sequins and seed beads on the inside. I used acetate for the window and added a fern leaf over top using the diecut inlay technique.
The window is made from a circle die and the layers of foam adhesive that I used were perfect for the dimension of the sequins and seed beads. They move around with no problems behind the acetate window.
The sequins and beads that I used are blues, greens and clear so they match the card design and colours. I love the awesome detail they add behind the fern... such a fun way to make a card interactive and fun! ;)
