Focus | Creating a Bokeh Effect

Hello! Today I have a card to share that features a fun stamp set from My Favorite Things called Bokeh Builder. This is a great set to create a fun bokeh look with stamps.

Not sure what bokeh is? Bokeh is the way the lens renders out-of-focus points of light in photos. It looks like a blend of un-focused circles that I think looks really pretty! And when a stamp set came out that helps to create that look, I was sold! ;)

I used the stamp set along with pigment inks from Avery Elle to stamp the circles in a random pattern on my card front. I picked out my sentiment and figured out where I wanted to place it on the card before I stamped the circles so I could position them in a way I liked around the words.

I chose to do the circles in three colours and did first as well as second generation stamping (when you stamp an image twice, without re-inking the stamp). That helps to create the darker and lighter coloured circles on the card.

You can do this technique with a lot more colours if you like thr rainbow look that can be achieved in bokeh. And there are so many great inks that would work for this as well, so I definitely recommend experimenting to see what you can come up with! ;)

A Fun Share
I was experimenting with some products yesterday and created the coolest brick wall background ever! Well I think it's pretty cool lol!! ;)

I adhered the small brick wall stencil from MFT onto a piece of white cardstock and then covered the entire thing with Wendy Vecchi white embossing paste. I made sure that I got it as smooth as I could, removed the stencil and then sprinkled Ranger Brick Antiquities embossing powder over it while the paste was still wet.

Once the paste was dry (if you heat emboss it while the paste is still wet, it will end up bubbling the paste. This can be a cool effect if that's the look you're going for, but for this technique, I wanted the bricks to remain smooth) heat emboss it with a heat tool. The end result? Raised, realistic looking bricks with awesome texture and dimension!

Now I just have to figure out what I want to do with it lol!! ;)

  6. Whank for the brick wall tip! I was looking for a way to make a brick floor to my dollhouse project and as a card maker I'm familiar with this techique! I have embossing paste, but brick coloured embossing powder doesn't seem to be available in Finland...
