MFT Inspired By... Inspirational Art

Hello! This week over on the My Favorite Things blog, we are having an inspiration celebration! We're talking about people, words and art that inspire us! ;)

Today is all about art. Some of the MFT team chose pieces of famous artwork that inspire them in one way or another and we're all sharing them today. I chose Starry Night by Vincent van Gogh as my inspiration:

Starry Night by Vincent van Gogh

I love this painting and knew right away that I wanted to create a card inspired by it. The swirls of blues and yellows are my favourite part with the buildings and city down below.

While my card doesn't even compare to this amazing work of art, I still had a lot of fun being inspired by it and creating whatever came to mind. ;)

I used yellow and blue inks to create a swirled inked background for my circle, to use as the focal point on my card. But once I started mixing the blues and yellows with my ink blending tool, the blue started to take on a green hue so the colours aren't quite like the painting. ;)

Once I had the inking done, I diecut a circle from white cardstock and kept the negative piece to adhere the inked circle into. I diecut a swirl of dots through the card base and the circle and put silver glitter paper in behind them.

I stamped a row of buildings, slightly off-center on the bottom of the circle area and added a stamped sentiment on top. The sentiment had the word 'brighter' underneath, but I cut it off to make the sentiment work with the card design. I used that part on the inside of the card to continue the greeting.

Do you have favourite pieces of art that inspire you? I would love to know what they are! ;)

Make sure to head over to the MFT blog for more inspiration and the chance to win a fun prize package. We've had inspiration and giveaways all week long! ;)
