July 2015 | Paper Doll Layout

Hello! Today I have my July paper doll layout to share and it's not the last day of the month lol! I usually find that I'm sharing these pages on the very last day of each month but this month I got the idea of the quote I wanted to use and couldn't wait to create the page. ;)

This month's layout is based on one of my favourite quotes from the movie Dirty Dancing. I have loved this movie for years and knew it would be great for this album (his clothes are darker black IRL... they're washed out a bit in the photograph). The scene and quote I chose are from the last scene of the movie when they dance to 'The Time of my Life.'

I used the Adam and Marisol stamps for this page since you can customize them with different clothes and accessories. I stamped both dolls on text paper and then coloured them with Copics (hair) and the new Prima Palette Mixed Media alcohol markers. I love these markers because they come in sets of three in various skin tones and hair colours as well as some general colours as well.

Once I had them coloured, I stamped their clothes onto patterned paper and cut them out. For her dress, the original stamp is a full length skirt but I needed it to be shorter since it's just past her knee in the movie. I stamped the entire thing first and then re-stamped the bottom into the middle area of the shirt to make it a shorter length.

His clothes are the new School Wear stamps and I stamped them on black patterned paper since he is wearing all black in the movie.

As much as I love how the layout turned out, I wish her hair was a little more similar to Baby's hair in the movie. But I know I can't always make them look exactly like the characters so I just got her as close as I could. ;)

I added a strip of patterned paper to the bottom of the page to ground the dolls and make it look like the stage. I then adhered them both with liquid adhesive, positioning them so that she would stand out in the the front. I also made sure to have them stand on the same sides as they do in the movie.

I printed out the quote that I wanted to use on the background paper before I added the dolls. I just figured out where I was going to put them and then typed in the quote to fit the space I had. I love when he gives this speech at the end... it's still my favourite part of the movie. ;)

You can watch the video below to see how I created my page:
