Today I got to spend some time catching up with the newest online card class - Clean and Simple Cardmaking 2
I really like the Clean and Simple Cardmaking classes because I have such a hard time making CAS cards. I always want to add more because I feel like they're not done. And one layer cards are even harder for me lol!! I just want to add layers and have to force myself to call it done.
I love the look of simple cards when other people create them, but always feel like mine don't ever have that same wow factor that I notice on cards created by others.
So I played around today with some masking techniques that Jennifer shared in the first class and used a sketch similar to a card that Julie created and came up with this card:

I inked all the stars using the positive and negatives of the star masks and then white heat embossed my sentiment over the coloured stars. I completely cut apart my sentiment stamp so that I could position it over the stars.
Truth? I don't feel like its done and it looks too plain to me. I wanted to mat the whole white piece onto a dark notecard but I really wanted to force myself to just use the white cardbase, so I left it. Maybe if I keep at it, I'll start to get a CAS style all my own that I actually like haha!!
I definitely recommend checking out the class if you struggle with clean and simple or if you just want some great inspiration and ideas!! ;-)

Great masking! I, too, feel the need to mat or add something more. I think a layer would still pass as CAS, though you'd lose the one-layer thing.
ReplyDeletegorgeous stamping! I think it's perfect but when I feel my card needs a little something extra, I'll round a corner or 2. Like the top left you could round just that one. I can't tell in the photo but it looks like you scored around the perimeter, so rounding wouldn't work. Or to keep a one layer, you could mask a little border on the card base and ink the border with one of the inks you stamped with.
