MFT Summer School: Lesson 4 | Line

Hello! This week is summer school over on the My Favorite Things blog. Each day brings a new lesson with a new teacher, amazing card samples and a chance for you to take part and win prizes!

Today's lesson is all about lines, whether they be horizontal or vertical. Lines help to ground images and bring an overall feeling of stability to a card. I created a card using a chevron line stamp to help anchor my butterfly image on my card front.

I first diecut my butterfly out of masking paper and used the negative piece of the masked piece to create the inked butterfly on the white cardstock. I combined Sno Cone, Summer Splash and Blu Raspberry inks to create the butterfly and give it an ombre look.

Once I was done inking the butterfly, I took off the mask and then placed the positive part of the mask over the butterfly. I then stamped the chevron line across the card front to make it appear like it's behind the butterfly. I could have just diecut a butterfly and placed it over the stamped line, but I wanted it to be a one layer card. ;)

I love the lines behind the butterfly... it grounds the image onto the card front and really helps the butterfly to stand out. I completed the card by added a glittery body to the butterfly and diecutting the stamped panel using a die from the Blueprints 23 collection.

I adhered it onto an aqua piece of glitter cardstock to match the butterfly and then adhered the whole thing onto a white, top folding card base. The sentiment is from the For The Boys stamp set and I thought it worked perfectly for the card design.

Make sure to head over to the MFT blog for today's lesson and a chance to win a prize!
