Hello and welcome back for day four of my
Simon Says Stamp Summer Series here on my blog!
I can't believe that the week is almost over already!!
For today's card, I wanted to challenge myself to use two things with my
Simon Says Stamp product: something I love and something that I wouldn't normally use.
The love item: Glitter, which I love as long as it isn't messy and coming off of the card all over the recipient.
Glitter Ritz micro fine glitter - the best glitter I have ever used, by far!! This stuff burnishes on awesome and does not come off at all! ;) So I decided to use a lot of it, lol!! ;)
The normally wouldn't use item: Gold. I openly admit that I have never been a big fan of the colour yellow gold. I prefer white gold, silver, platinum... well you get the idea! ;)
But I have been seeing so much gold lately and have actually been liking how it looks, so I decided it was time that I made something with it.
The result of my product choices (I wish the photos could show how glittery this actually is) -

A little about how I created this card:
- I adhered a piece of heavyweight white cardstock to a strip of
Be Creative tape and then left the adhesive backing on the side not adhered to the cardstock.
- I positioned my
butterfly face down on the adhesive covered side of the tape, held it in place with a piece of washi tape and then ran it through my
Big Shot machine. Because the cardstock was thick, the die didn't cut all the way through, so everything was still in one piece. The die only cut out the butterfly shape through the adhesive backing - an awesome tip I learned from
Jennifer McGuire ;)
- I slowly peeled away the butterfly with tweezers, making sure to leave the inside pieces still adhered to the cardstock piece.
- I then shook on
Dark Gold Glitter Ritz glitter and burnished it in, creating a pretty gold, glittery butterfly.
- Once I had the butterfly done, I carefully removed the rest of the adhesive backing and shook on
Cool Highlight Glitter Ritz glitter and burnished that in. And voila! A completely glitter covered, one layer piece with a butterfly in the middle.
- To add the sentiment, I stamped the word
'you' very carefully with Archival Jet Black Ink. One thing to remember when stamping a sentiment on glitter is to use one that has thin lines and press down gently when you stamp it. That will help it 'bleed' less into the glitter.
- I matted the glitter piece onto a strip of Steel Grey cardstock and adhered it to the front of a white top folding card base.
- For a little more detail I added black gems to the center of the butterfly and two thin strips of
American Crafts Pow glitter paper to the bottom.
Please let me know if you have any questions on how I created this card. :-)
